3 March was the World Health Organization (WHO) World Hearing Day.
This year’s theme was “Changing mindsets: Empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all!”
The WHO called for more accessible and timely hearing care, including affordable hearing devices.
Also on 3 March, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) organized an International Symposium with the theme “Charting the Future: A Strategic Action Plan for Dementia Care”.
CUHK ENT Department Professors Michael Tong (Professor, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery) and Iris Ng (Assistant Professor and Chief, Division of Audiology, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery) shared research showing there is a link between hearing loss and dementia, highlighting just how crucial it is to treat hearing loss early.

Incus CEO Calvin Zhang was invited to share how we innovate to make hearing care more accessible.
Sadly, it takes the average person 7 years from awareness of the hearing problem to taking action. During those 7 years, the hearing decline tends to speed up and the risk of dementia increased.
Many delay treatment until it is too late.
But why does it take so long?

Calvin shared the three most common objections to traditional hearing aids:
- Noisy
- Stigma
- Expensive
Incus uses technology and innovation to tackle these problems to let more people take action sooner:
- Patented Intelligent Noise Reduction technology, first developed at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- Stylish design, camouflaged as a regular Bluetooth earphone
- App-based setup and adjustments & Greater China’s 1st high-performance hearing aid chip
Thank you to HKCSS, the other speakers and the audience. Let’s work together to make hearing care accessible!
